Manthey Road Bridge Replacement Project

The City of Lathrop is seeking engineering and environmental services to replace a bridge over the San Joaquin River on Manthey Road near the I-5 and SR-120. The existing bridge (identified as CA29C-127) was built in 1927 and spans 539 ft, and is surrounded by three other bridges including the I-5 north and south-bound bridge, the SR-120 south-bound I-5 connector, and the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge. CalTrans identified items required to ensure public health and safety for the existing bridge over the San Joaquin River on Manthey Road. The bridge was inspected for these qualities and was classified as “structurally deficient.” Due to the deficiencies, the City of Lathrop and federal Highway Bridge Program (HBP) elected to realign Manthey Road and construct a new bridge. The City of Lathrop has requested preliminary structural, geotechnical, and environmental designs for the replacement bridge. Environmental engineering services requires preparation of a California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Mitigated Negative Declaration to define potential environmental impacts caused by undertaking this project and outline mitigation methods to limit the severity of these impacts. Geotechnical engineering services includes the preliminary design and analysis for a concrete pile foundation system. Existing laboratory and field data will be used as the basis for soil characterization. Structural engineering services provides the design of several major bridge components including a typical deck and girder cross-section, supporting structure system, and pile cap. All engineering designs and recommendations will be in compliance with regulatory body standards and specifications (e.g., AASHTO, ACI, FHWA, etc.)
