September 5th, 1890Mrs. John Muir,Martinez, California.My dear Mrs. Muir:-I thank you very much for your obliging letter of the 27th of August which has just come to hand.I am very glad to hear of Mr. Muir\u27s success in Alaska.We should prefer to have the article on the King\u27s River Canon first, as I believe I wrote Mr. Muir the other day, because, first, we want to give Mr. Robinson some work to do, and, second, I think of suggesting to the Public Lands Committee the reservation of the Canon for a public park. The Alaska articles we will use later as a special feature.We have already made some pictures for an article on Alaska the text of which turned out badly, and our Illustration Department will send Mr. Muir proofs of these in hopes that they will fit into his narrative along with the other sketches and photographs he has collected.It does really look as though something we going to come of the Yosemite agitation, after all.I often think with pleasure of my visit to your home, and wish that Mrs. Johnson and I could see you and your good husband in New York.Very respectfully & sincerely yoursR.
