Theorizing Technostress in Organizations: A Cybernetic Approach

We report the outcome of a research project which has the goal to develop a theoretical framework that makes it possible to gain an advanced understanding of employees\u27 technostress perceptions in organizations. We argue that such a framework is urgently needed, because empiricism has far outstripped theory-building in the field of technostress. In the course of analyzing theories of stress used in organizational research, we identified cybernetics as a potentially fruitful theoretical lens through which technostress in organizations can be studied. Specifically, we merged two major stress models based on cybernetics and integrated findings from previous technostress research into this unified framework.
