Évolution et modifications des sociétés humaines au Pléistocène moyen récent dans le Nord-Ouest de la France

International audienceNorthwestern France is characterized by a relatively high number of open-air sites attributed to the Late Middle Pleistocene. During this period, the biological evolution of Homo heidelbergensis that will lead to the emergence of the Neanderthal lineage, is the cause of many societal, cultural and technical changes. From a cultural point of view, the Middle Pleistocene covers the end of the Acheulean and the early Middle Paleolithic. This phase of transition is contemporary with the emergence and mostly the rapid generalization of the use of Levallois production. On a more general point of view, the Late Middle Pleistocene appears as a phase of complex maturation of human societies, at the origin of the specificity of the Middle European Paleolithic.Le Nord-Ouest de la France est caractérisé par un nombre assez élevé de sites de plein air attribués au Pléistocène moyen récent. Durant cette période, l’évolution biologique d’Homo heidelbergensis qui mènera à l’émergence de la lignée néandertalienne, est la cause de nombreux changements sociétaux, culturels et techniques. Sur le plan culturel, le Pléistocène moyen couvre la fin de l’Acheuléen et les débuts du Paléolithique moyen. Cette phase de transition est contemporaine de l’émergence et surtout de la généralisation rapide de l’utilisation du débitage Levallois. Sur un plan plus général, le Pléistocène moyen récent apparaît comme une phase de maturation complexe des sociétés humaines, à l’origine de la spécificité du Paléolithique moyen européen
