Conceptual Metaphor In Album A Head Full Of Dream By Coldplay

The purpose of this research is to analyze the conceptual metaphor ofColdplay lyrics in album A Head Full of Dream, which metaphor is mostlyfound in the text of song lyrics. In this case, the aims of this research are: (1)to identify the types of conceptual metaphor and to convey the meanings ofmetaphorical expression. (2) to convey the functions of metaphoricalexpression used by Coldplay. The method of this research is using qualitativemethod. The research questions will be answered in analytical description.The concept of metaphorical expressions are analyzed by using GeorgeLakoff and Mark Johnson theory. The functions of metaphorical expressionare analyzed by using Leech theory. The result of this research shows thatthere are 37 data findings which contains 13 structural metaphor, 8orientational metaphor, and 16 ontological metaphor. The findings are proventhat the ontological metaphor is the most frequently used by Coldplay and themeaning of metaphor can be easier to understand by using Lakoff andJohnson theory.
