The excited levels, up to more than 3 MeV excitation energy, of the N = 81 isotones : 139Ce, 141Nd, 143 Sm, have been studied at the Orsay MP Tandem essentially by means of a split-pole magnetic spectrometer, using the (d, t) reaction at Ed = 26.21 MeV (resolution : 14 keV) and the (3He, α) reaction at E3He = 25 MeV (resolution : 23 keV). The angular distributions obtained for a large number of levels (~ 90 for the 3 nuclei) have been analyzed using the distorted wave born approximation (DWBA). Among the analysed levels, many (more than 30) had not been observed or resolved in the earlier (p, d) and (d, t) experiments. The single particle strength is generally split over several levels.
