The formation of negative ions in HCI and DCI is studied with a total ionization chamber. In addition to the already well established peak of CI- ions, two other peaks are observed at 6.9 and 9.2 eV. These peaks are due to H- (D-) ions. We have determined the absolute cross section for the different processes and measured the corresponding isotope effects.
