It is possible to see level crossing signals at very high vapor pressure by observing the diffuse back-scattered resonance light. The classical Hanle signal corresponds to a « real » absorption by the atoms of photons in the central portion of the resonance line ; there is also in this case a contribution from magneto-rotation of the photons in the wings of the resonant line which are appreciably diffused by the gaz at high vapor pressure. This signal is calculated in a way similar to Lecler's calculation [4] for lateral diffusion. It is possible in this way to give a physical interpretation of the phenomena.
