Essa camada de proteínas adsorvida tem uma grande influência sobre a ação e eficiência dos nanomateriais aplicados na nanomedicina. Dentre as estratégias para evitar a ocorrência desse fenômeno está a funcionalização da superfície das partículas com grupos zwitteriônicos (ZW) ou com polietilenoglicol (PEG).
