The practice of designing cities in Indonesia tends to adopt concepts and theories (particularly nonnative theories) from foreign countries. Such conditions are due to the paucity of concept development as well as urban architecture theory (descriptive and nonnative). The study aims to fonnulate a descriptive theory in architecture of the city developed from taking meaning toward architectural phenomenon and characteristics exist in the living dynamics of seven small cities in Yogyakarta.
