Pemberian Ekstrak Belimbing Wuluh (Averrhoa Bilimbi L.) Dalam Upaya Mencegah Aterosklerosis

ABSTRAK Atherosclerosis is one of the most important factor influences the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the use of pectin extracted from Averrhoa bilimbi L to reduce serum cholesterol level in preventing atherosclerosis. The study was conducted in Rattus norvegicus for 92 days. The result showed that pectin extracted from Averrhoa bilimbi L can reduce serum cholesterol level significantly (p < .05). The most effective hypocholesterolemia effect was shown in the 69th day of observation. There was no significant difference between the hypocholesterolemia effect of 2 mL pectin and 4 mL pectin suggesting that the pectin dose can be given lower or equal to 2 m
