Expression functions, sentences, communicative acts, texts (aspects of meaning and of its thematization in the framework of a text theory)

The present paper discusses three main questions: (1) Analysis of the meaning of words/idioms and their representation in a Lexicon which builds a component of a theory. When discussing the questions of analysis and representation, critical attention is being paid to the Putnam-concept of word meaning. (2) Analysis of the meaning of sentences and of real or potential communicative acts. The analysis concerns on the one hand the co-textual and the con-textual aspects, on the other hand, besides handling aspects of single sentences/communicative acts, it also ranges over the discussion of the problems of sequences of sentences and of communicative acts. (3) Analysis of the meaning of texts. This analysis implies the discussion of different aspects of text meaning as well as the discussion of those properties of a verbal object which can be called connexity, cohesion and coherence. (Meaning is understood as a pair consisting of a sense and an extralinguistic correlate. Neither textuality, nor interpretability, nor coherence will be understood as inherent properties of a text)
