Práce zkoumá vliv nerostného bohatství, ropy a diamantů, na vznik, průběh, ukončení a délku občanské války v Angole. Pro lepší vystihnutí tohoto vlivu je válka rozdělena na dvě fáze: První fáze popisuje situaci za Studené války, kdy mocnosti jako USA a SSSR svým diktátem utvářely mezinárodní prostředí. Ve druhé fázi potom dochází k posílení role nerostných surovin.
