Angola and Mozambique - fast decolonization, raw materials curse and development assistance

The aim of my bachelor thesis is to determine what factors contributed to the relative decline of Angola and Mozambique after declaring independence in 1975. Both of these former Portuguese colonies came through revolutions and long civil wars. However, we consider each of them separately though they have much in common. In my work I deal i. a. with the hypothesis of the so-called curse of the raw materials in Angola which is a major exporter of oil and diamonds. My effort is to find out why the use of nature resources was and still is sub-optimal for the country development. The Marxist FRELIMO party has played a significant role in Mozambique as the recipient of abroad exported ideology. Therefore I attempt to clarify the impact of this ideology on domestic institutions and consequently on the economy. The IMF, the World Bank and other organizations are trying to reduce the impact of political parties through the development assistance. Therefore successes of the activities respectively their unintended consequences are mentioned in this work as well
