The Ka’Bani – Mawinne Concept in Sumba’s Traditional Architectural Residence atKampung Tarung, Sumba Barat

The Sumbanese traditional house is one of the traditional architecture in Indonesia which is derived from Austronesian culture and have several characteristics such as stage house, wooden or bamboo house, and high-pitched roof. The Sumbanese traditional house is indeed inevitable from globalization and the impact of it has been seen as the phenomenon ofvisual or physical changes of the house and non-physical changes. Based on these issues, the aims are to acquire the representation and the concept of Sumbanesetraditional house (case study in KampungTarung, Waikabubak, West Sumba). The research method of this study is qualitative descriptive with phenomenology paradigm and naturalistic approach. To results has obtainedthe concept of Ka'bani - Mawinne that clarifying the essence of Sumbanese traditional house in Tarung village as the ‘pemali’ house or sacred house. It is inseparable from the ancestral spirits or Meraputo conduct the spatial pattern in the housewhich ishorizontally divided into male area (right) and female area (left). Meanwhile verticallydivided into male area on the upper part (Uma Dana) and female area on the middle and lower part (Taronga Uma and SalaKabounga)
