Written by John Muir in January, 1872, while residing in his pine cabin at the foot of the Yosemite Falls.#184 00208 Yosemite Valley January 11th 72We are pretty closely snowbound Having had but one mail in two months. I hope to get this over the snow tomorrow. Here is a plume of the great Libo- cedrus all golden with ripe stam- inate cones, Think of the tree on wh it grew, near 200 ft in height, 30 in diameter spiring up in the blue mountain air in gold & green, or waving & laving in storm. Give part of this spray to Mrs Galloway I hope that it will be living when it reaches you, & give you all a tingle of pleasure. We have had the grandest flood that has occurred in three years. More than one hundred falls averaging near 3000 ft in height sang together in glorious jubilee besides, a countless company of silvery arterus gleaming everywhere A perfect storm of waterfalls the smallest with a voice that was hearable at a distance of several miles, Possibly on account of this storm May appear in some of the papers, & I will try to send it. I trust dear sister that you are very happy with your Davie & wee ones I have so much to say that I cannot speak at all Some day we will talkit all over Give my kindest regards to Davie & to old Mrs Galloway & to all of the broad branching family that you meet I am very busy witting ice etc. Also I have written a few letters that may appear in the N.Y.
