Diagnostics of canine diabetes mellitus and evaluation of treatment management in veterinary clinics X and Y

In a case study, where 21 patient has been enrolled to have their medical history analysed the following measures were considered: age, gender, castration, diabetes diagnosis date, diagnostic procedures, treatment and length of the treatment, the efficiency of the treatment, treatment implementation changes, monitoring procedures, blood glucose level changes, prevalence of the symptoms and complications. The patients were segregated into the following groups: age, breed, gender, weight, castration, symptoms, the change in laboratory findings, blood glucose level. All participants have had their blood glucose level tested. After the results all of the participants have been prescribed insulin. In the present study pure breed dogs accounted for 61,9%, female dogs for 61,9% and not castrated dogs for 57,14% of the diabetes mellitus cases. Of all the dogs castrated male dogs were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus least often. The mean age of subjects – 8,14±2,21 years (from 4 to 12,6 years). Ore than a half of newly diagnosed cases was recorded during March–August months – 66,67%. The mean of blood glucose level during the diagnosis has been found to be – 23.27±7,03 mmol/l.
