  Perlilla or perlita, Symphoricarposmicrophyllus H.B.K., is a non-timber forestresource that is distributed in theChichinautzin Biological Corridor, Morelos, Mexico. Traditionally, peasant people usethis species as rustic brushes, but theDistrito Federal Government has recentlyincreased the demand for carpet sweepers for city cleaning purposes. As aconsequence, the current source of thespecies has been affected; over-utilizationand concomitant population declinejustify this study of its use, distribution,abundance, and phenology. Such ecologicaldata also serve in developing a program thatwill manage the resource and preserve thespecies.La perlilla o perlita Symphoricarposmicrophyllus H.B.K., es un producto forestal no maderable (PFNM), distribuido en elCorredor Biológico Chichinautzin, Morelos,México. Allí, los campesinos la usan tradicionalmente para fabricar escobas rústicas.Durante los últimos años el Gobierno delDistrito Federal ha incrementado lademanda para las barredoras mecanizadas.Su sobreextracción y venta ha reducido estaespecie silvestre, por tal razón, se planteóel presente estudio sobre la distribución yabundancia, proceso fenológico y usostradicionales, como base para su manejo ypreservación futura
