Energy and power measures for renovations of a residential area

There are several residential buildings in Sweden today that are in need of renovations and if this is done in a clever and energy efficient way it has potential to help achieve Sweden’s political energy and climate goals. The purpose of this thesis is to analyse one of Uppsalahem’s older residential areas for future renovations, with focus on energy and power solutions for energy efficiency, energy production and storage. The aim is to provide guidance and background for the energy work at Uppsalahem and to illustrate how different renovation alternatives can have an impact on the energy use at the residential area Täljstenen in Uppsala. This was achieved by simulating and analysing three measure packages with 8 to 11 combinations of measures in each. The energy bought during the year, what changes the measures result in for the heat power use, heat power cost and what measures are reasonable and profitable to implement, were examined. It is found that by improving the building envelope the heating demand decreases by up to 28 % while the electricity demand is unchanged and all changes have a decrease on the heating power and corresponding cost. However, only adding additional insulation to the attic and basement walls are profitable. Installing an exhaust air heat pump show large potential for heat saving but does not show profitability. Installation of exhaust and supply air ventilation with heat recovery lead to large heat savings. The heating demand has a potential to decrease by 83 % compared to today if it is combined with a heat pump and this a is a profitable change. Installation of solar power, preheating of ventilation air and heat pumps also show possible profitability for the residential area as individual measures. Preheating of ventilation air, hydrogen storage and measures involving the building envelope have potential to decreases the heat power and the corresponding power cost
