After the fall

'After The Fall' is the first solo exhibition at PS² following the completion of a body of practice-based research around the transmission of the studio anatomy into other conditions of production or representation. Research process: This exhibition attempts a reformulation of the studio within the gallery space using a combination of image fragments and works in progress. The research instrumentalises the following existing theoretical and practical frameworks: In Claire Bishop’s (2005) account of Poststructuralist theory and Installation Art, it is the viewer that is ‘decentred’ . We are no longer able to assume a solitary or stable position from which to view the work. Rosalind Krauss’(1986) descriptions of sculpture as ‘placeless’ or ‘homeless’ also reinforces this idea and these examples formulate key aspects of the research process. Research insights: 'After the Fall' advances existing knowledge, theories and debates around late 20th Century sculptural production. This body of work contemporises an understanding of decentred artistic practice through the notion of ‘siting’ place and context in modes of production and representation. Upholding the understanding of an ongoing disjuncture between art and its locations.
