Stori Bilong Patricia Ilai - Yumi Sanap Strong

Patricia Ilai is a young woman from Banana Block in Goroka Papua New Guinea. She once helped a woman who was accused of practicing sorcery and witchcraft by her community and provided a safe shelter for her. Eventually the woman left as she was too scared of being found. Patricia speaks out strongly against sorcery accusations, and asks anyone not to start any gossip in the community but to consider the feelings of those who are being accused. Stori Bilong Patricia Ilai was produced as part of the Yumi Sanap Strong initiative, a community led initiative that emerged from an action research project undertaken by Queensland University of Technology in partnership with the University of Goroka and community-based partner organisations. The project develops communication strategies and materials to address sorcery accusation related violence in Papua New Guinea. The community partner organisation for this digital story was Kafe Urban Settlers' Women's Association in the Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea
