The Historical and Cultural Memory of the Aurelian Walls: The Archaeological Survey from Ancient Maps to Contemporary Techniques.

The work starts from the analysis and comparison of the study of Roman archaeological structures present in historical maps, starting with Bufalini’s Map of Rome (1551) and then continuing with the study of Nolli’s (1748) and Lanciani’s one (1901). From the analysis of these maps, a method has been developed for the realization of a contemporary cartography of the Roman archaeologies, choosing, as a case study, that of the Aurelian Walls, from which a three-dimensional survey has been started by using of the Laser Scanner, with the aim of studying the relationship of these archaeological elements with the spaces of present-day Rome. The aim of the study is to detect the transformations that have taken place around the wall throughout history, including the topography, and to highlight the current relationship between public space and ancient architecture.El trabajo parte del análisis y la comparación del estudio de las estruc- turas arqueológicas romanas presentes en los mapas históricos, comenzando con el Mapa de Roma de Bufalini (1551) y continuando con el estudio de Nolli (1748) y Lanciani (1901). A partir del análisis de estos mapas, se ha desarrollado un método para la realización de una cartografía contemporánea de las arqueologías romanas, eligiendo, como caso de estudio, el de las Murallas Aurelianas, del que se ha empezado a realizar un levantamiento tridimensional mediante el Escáner Láser, con el objetivo de estudiar la relación de estos elementos arqueológicos con los espacios de la Roma actual. El estudio tiene como objetivo el de detectar las transformaciones a lo largo de la historia, incluso en el ámbito topográfico, que se han desarrollado alrededor de la muralla, así como poner de relieve la relación actual entre el espacio público y la arquitectura antigua
