Bu çalışmada, hayvan yemi olarak kullanılan buğday danelerinde farklı sodyum hidroksit (NaOH) uygulamaları (% 1,5, 3,0, 4,0) ile toksin oluşumuna neden olan fungusların 6 aylık bir depolama süresince engellenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Buğday danelerindeki fungus gelişimini engellemede % 3 ve 4’lük sodyum hidroksit uygulamaları diğer 2 uygulamaya (% 0 ve 1.5) göre daha başarılı sonuç vermiştir. Fungus gelişimi % 3 ve 4’lük uygulamalar ile 6 ay boyunca etkili bir şekilde engellenirken, % 1,5’luk uygulamanın etkinliği bir kaç ay ile sınırlı kalmıştır. Buğday danelerinde çalışma boyunca en yaygın olan funguslar Alternaria, Fusarium, Penicillium, Aspergillus, Rhizopus ve Mucor spp. olarak tespit edilmiştir.
