Stake Office/Tithing House and Second Ward Chapel

Work began on the Tithing Office on the 11th of July, 1908. The cost of the building was $7000 and was paid by general church authorities. The building was located on the southeast corner of 100 West and 100 South. The building served as offices for the Stake Presidency and High Council of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some of the rooms were used by bishops of the wards and another room was used as the Tithing Office. The Vernal 4th Ward scouts along with their fathers took the building down in April of 1970. According to the records, it was 1916 when the Second Ward Chapel began to raise money to build a chapel next to the Stake Office/Tithing House. Work began in 1917 by Ward members. On April 4, 1919 a house warming was held. A large crowd was present. Various fund raisers were held to pay for the new chapel. On Januyary 9, 1920 all the pews were in place. The cost of the building was over $22,000. In 1958, the site was purchased for the new 2nd and 4th Ward Chapel and by 1966 the new chapel was built. The old chapel was used for various things and finally purchased by Uintah County and used as the Golden Age Center for Senior Citizens. At this time, September 2014, the building is still standing and is used as the Head Start Program for children of the area
