Staff Affected Evening and night shift employees at University Hospital who want to continue to park on the roof of the terrace will have to purchase at least a "U" sticker no later than April 15. This change was recently adopted by the University Hospital- School of Medicine Parking Advisory Committee, according to Chair Terry Turner. Complaints have increased in recent months about use of the terrace roof by individuals other than those groups for which it is reserved. "If each car has a University parking Wicker, it will be easier to regulate use of the terrace roof to better serve evening and night employees who often cannot find a space," said Bob Parks, associate director of Parking Services. The roof of the terrace is reserved for three groups - evening and night shift employees whose shift begins after 2 p.m., volunteers and physicians from the community who are attending grand rounds. Vendors will no longer be allowed to park on the roof of the terrace but will be expected to pay for parking. Use of the terrace for evening and night shift employees was started to give them a secure parking place near the Hospital other than the patient/ visitor lot. "This system has worked well for our staff and has somewhat reduced the patient/ visitor parking crunch," Mr. Turner added. Current " U" stickers are available in Parking Services for $20 and are valid until October. P. M. shift staff may also purchase "A" stickers if desired. Blood Donor Honored Sylva Staab was recently honored by the Blood Donor Center for having donated more than three gallons of blood since 1980. According to Kevin Windsor, recruitment coordinator for the center, Ms. Staab is the only University Hospital employee to have donated three gallons. Other Hospital employees have donated up to two gallons. Sylva, the Hospital's employment manager in Personnel Services, was presented with a certificate and three red roses. The Blood Donor Center is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located in room A-601. For more information, call extension 2686. Linda Adams Kesler Watercolors Featured in Hallside Gallery Linda Adams Kesler is the featured artist in the Hallside Gallery this month. She is a landscape painter interested in the traditional, transparent watercolor technique. She has been painting watercolors for 11 years and especially likes to paint outdoors in deserts and on sea coasts. "I like the opportunity to see big views and the curve of the Earth and desert. I like the sea coast because it is the moment between two big elements, the land and the sea," she said. A Utah native, Ms. Kesler has earned degrees in English from the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota. She played second harp with the Utah Symphony while in high school and studies ballet at the University of Utah. She also writes and publishes poetry. She has traveled across the deserts of western America, the gardens of France, the Roman ruins of Tunisia and the Pacific Basin. She uses her travels as sources for her watercolors. Ms. Kesler maintains a studio at the Guthrie Institute of Fine Art. Some of her work may be seen at the Brushworks Gallery and the Upper Crust Restaurant. The Hallside Gallery is located in room AC 113 in the School of Medicine. Health Care Topic of TV Course If you've been promising yourself you'd take a class but are having trouble leaving your easy chair, Weber State College has just the course for you it's on TV. And the topic is health care. Beginning on March 31, the Health Administration/ Education Program at WSC will present a two-credit upper division seminar entitled " Futures in Health Care. "The seminar for health care workers and professionals is taught by Dr. Reed Stringham, dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences at Weber State College. The course will appear on 10 consecutive Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. on the new educational television station, Channel 9, which can be received in Salt Lake City and Ogden through cable television. Two of the sessions will feature Dean Stringham and others will include interviews with individuals from health-related fields. Health Sciences Center staff are encouraged to watch the programs whether or not they take the class. Social Set for Friday It's not a rumor at all! University Hospital's Social Activities Committee is holding an after-hours social at Vicieuses Rumeurs, a private club at 3 Triad Center, beginning at 5 p. m. on Friday, March 27. There is no cover charge; individuals must purchase their own drinks. All faculty, staff and students of the Health Sciences Center are invited to attend. Got Your Award? If you were unable to attend the Service Awards Dinner March 12 to receive your award, you can pick it up anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Personnel Services, room 1A1 UUMC, across from the entrance to clinics 4, 5 and 6. Volunteers Need Help Solving Mystery The case of the disappearing folding card table is a mystery for Volunteer Services. The table was last seen in the surgery waiting room on the third floor in the last month or so. Anyone who knows its whereabouts is asked to report to Volunteer Services at extension 2278.
