Sponsored by the University of Utah Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, INFOFAIR will include discussions about " Traveling the Internet Using Netscape on the PC," " Becoming an Information Provider on the World Wide Web ( MAC)" and " Net-worked Databases at the University of Utah." INFOFAIR also will feature an Internet sharing session; a number of booths with the latest hardware, software and information; and the annual Clifford C. Snyder, M. D, and Mary Snyder Lecture, featuring Michael P. D'Alessandro, M. D, assistant professor of radiology at the Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School and co- director of the Electronic Differential Multimedia Laboratory at the University of Iowa College of Medicine. D'Alessandro's discussion is tided " A Virtual Hospital: A Ubiquitous Organization Serving Health Care Providers and Patients." He will speak about the need for rapid, convenient access to high- quality information for the health- care provider to ensure the best patient care, and how to place that information at their fingertips. Jjnfg^^ n W H : 9 AAMC Leader to Speak This Week " Professional Advancement and Promotion Issues for Medical School Faculty: A National Overview," and " Basic Negotiating Skills and Learning to Say ' No,'" are two discussions scheduled on the Health Sciences Center campus this Thursday and Friday. Janet Bickel, assistant vice president for women's programs in the Division of Institutional Planning and Development at the Association of American Medical Colleges, will be the featured speaker. Her first presentation, " Professional Advancement and Promotion Issues for Medical School Faculty: A National Overview," will be delivered on Thursday, April 6, at 4 p. m., in the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics auditorium. The second lecture, a brown- bag discussion, is scheduled at noon on Friday, April 7, in the John A. Moran Eye Center auditorium. Bickel has 22 years of experience in using a systems approach to managing institutional change, and has been instrumental in developing vehicles to promote careers for women in the health sciences. Scheduled for Saturday, May 6, at 9 a. m., the cost of the 3.1- mile race/ walk is only $ 10, which includes a long- sleeved T-shirt with this year's logo, your entry fee, and plenty of beverages, fruits and other snacks at the finish line. Registration forms will be available in the Cashier's Office, beginning Tuesday, April 4. For more information, contact Doug Boudreaux, xl- 7387, or Heather Bush, xl- 2100. • At midnight, April 20, University Hospital will upgrade its telecommuni-cations system to provide more efficient service to its internal and external customers. According to Abe Bakhsheshy, Ph D., director of Customer Service, the upgraded system will provide a faster response time for traumas, C- arrests and other emergencies; fewer mis- dials and help prevent human error; a minimum waiting time for calls answered, all pages and telephone transfers; new telephone answering procedures for specific departments; a direct connection for all pagers and a new way to monitor the quality of the Hospital's telecommuni-cations service. Bakhsheshy says the phones will be discon-nected for less than 30 seconds during the system upgrade. The paging system will not be affected, so individuals who need to be paged during the upgrade will receive their pages. " These changes should alleviate some of the problems and con-cerns we have experi-enced with our telecom-munications system in the past," says Bakhsheshy. " We feel this upgrade is very important to all customers of University Hospital, and is simply another way we are striving to improve our Customer Service Depart-ment." Hurry! Deposits for UH River Trip Due April 14 It's time to get your deposit in for this year's University Hospital River Trip at the Lone Eagle Resort near Jackson Hole, Wy. A deposit of $ 50 per person must be given to Xydell Hobbs, x5- 5396, by April 14, with the remaining money due in May. Scheduled for the weekend of July 21- 23, the trip includes two river runs down the Snake River, five meals and the opportunity to enjoy swimming pools, hot tubs, hiking, moun-tain biking and much more. Board of Health Regulation Prohibits HSC Bake Sales A reminder to those groups or departments which sponsor bake sales, and prepare food for public distribution within the Hospi-tal or the Health Sciences Center. Although the inten-tions and reasons for a bake sale may be good ones, there are city and county regula-tions prohibiting them. The Salt Lake City- County Board of Health Regulation * 5 states: " Food for commer-cial use shall not be prepared or stored in a private home or residence. Home- canned and home- prepared food is prohibited. " This means that food may only be prepared in a com-mercial facility which is inspected by the Bureau of Food Protection and which has a current permit to operate as a food service establishment. Any food other than that which is prepared in an approved facility is re-stricted from distribution to the general public." The team, representing Resource Nursing, includes ( left to right): Alan Sandburg, Jutte Hearst, Laird Wasbburn, AUsa Kearl and Rodney Kearl. They defeated more than 10 teams from throughout the Health Sciences Center to take the title. The Spring league is underway.
