Dr White was born in Orlando, Florida in 1943. Dr White received his B.S in 1965 from the University of Oregon and his Ph.D. in 1971 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr White was a Fellow at the Jane Coffin Childs Foundation at Stanford University School of Medicine from 1971-1975. From 1975-1978, Dr White was Assistant Professor of Mircobiology at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. Dr White came to the University in 1980 as Associate Professor in the Department of Cellular, Viral and Molecular Biology and Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute 1980-1994.
