We unite in kindest wishes for your welfare, and will hope to hear again from you ere longVery Lovingly Mother01021[1]1881 Portage July 23d 1889Dear JohnI very gladly received your welcome letter dated June 16th Plover Bay Siberia and also the one you sent from Oonalaska as well as the one you sent from San-Francisco when you started on your long voyage — I trust this expedition will be brought to a successful termination this fall as this would be a very happy relief to us all - I am very glad to know you have every thing comfortable for the trip – We wrote a week ago to Louie’ hoping she will write to us soon —[Page 2][2]-and let us know how she is and how baby is prospering John Reid has been here on business nearly a month he says Margt is well as usual and likes Neb. much better than she did at first, the family are all well – Mary and her baby boy has been home about two – months, she is as well and happy as I ever saw her Your father is well and is able to get arround rather better David is not very well I feel anxious that he shall have a vacation this summer I think it is what he greatly needs – his family are well and are enjoying there vacation – they are all away visiting friends at this time - -[3]I am glad you have been successful in your studies – you must have had some new and wonderful experiences since you left home – but I trust you will all be spared in the midst of such great dangers to return home in safety – we will ever pray, and hope, and trust, that all will be well, we know that our God is able to preserve you all in every possible circumstances of peril that may befall you – you have had many hair breathes escapes from great dangers, and we cling to the hope that you will still have Gods protective love shielding you from every danger I appreciate your kindness in causing you Bulletin letters to be sent to us -
