Muddy recent ice in great variety of color and muddiness is also formed on the faces of the cliffs among the pure ice. The lofty cliff, however, at Elephant Point is not like any of the above in appearance or origin. It extends for a distance of a mile along the shore, and perhaps about a hundred and twenty yards back from the top of the cliff.
