Several notable buildings are visible in the photograph, including the Southern Hotel and the Lazarus Department Store. Opened in 1897 as the Great Southern Fireproof Hotel and Opera House, the landmark hotel is now known as the Westin Columbus Hotel. Founded in 1851 by Simon Lazarus, the department store merged with Macy's in 2005. The large skyscraper in the distance is the Rhodes State Office Tower. Completed in 1974, the Rhodes Tower is the tallest building in Columbus.
