Fragment of a slate pop-eye type birdstone is the head portion of a stylized bird form. The beak is long and tapering, ending in a small flattened surface. The eyes are small cylinders that project about 8 mm from the head. Two holes were drilled prehistorically on either side of the neck, presumably for reattaching it to the body, which is missing. The fragment is very dark gray with black bands. Although the function of birdstones is unknown, they might have served as highly-decorative spearthrower weights. Item was found in Perry County, Ohio
