Birdstones were made by the people of the Late Archaic period (2500-1500 B.C.). They were usually made of slate or porphyry, a rock containing large crystals. Theories on their purpose or use include as an ornament or good luck charm, a reworked tool, a game, or a spiritual token. These three birdstones are approximately 2.75 x .75 by 5.25 inches (6.99 x 1.90 x 13.34 cm)
