Deterrents For DACA Renewals

In an ideal world, all the children who were brought over by their parents would receive immunity from being deported and receive similar benefits to children who are citizens. It was not their choice to move to another country. For the most part, the children who were brought over only recognize the United States as being their home. They are all children who grew up in the same schools as U.S. born citizens and they also learned the same values. There is no reason for them not to be treated the same. They would also be able to apply for public benefits if needed and should also be able to vote. However, the DACA program is one that creates a lot of debate within politics. There are some who are strongly against DACA, some who feel like the DACA program is not fair for the recipients, and some who strongly support the program. By continuing to view the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals permit as a privilege we disregard the needs of the recipients. The permit does provide them with more freedom in comparison to the undocumented people who do not have this status. We continue to provide renewal services but they are not continuing the program for their own reasons. It will help by giving the recipients a platform to voice what they need and what they want to see from a service agency in order to fill in the gap of service providers and DACA recipients. The purpose of this study is to find out what are the different reasons that are discouraging the DACA recipients from receiving renewal services in order to address these problems within a service organization. This study will help in creating awareness for the issues that the DACA recipients face. It will also be helping the social service agents see what the DACA recipients are looking for and try to help them fill in those gaps. Service agencies want to help the recipients but there seems to be a decrease of these services being used since the DACA program first started, so it can also help by showing if these recipients would actually want or need these services. In this proposed study a qualitative research method will be used. A qualitative research method will be used because the services that are being provided at the agency rely on DACA recipients renewing. The researcher hopes to accomplish a better understanding in a way to approach DACA recipients It is creating awareness between the people who work in the field by letting them know what issues in this community are impacting them. There is a different perspective in each generation that received the DACA permit, so this study will highlight that and acknowledge the struggles that each generation faces. This will help connect the social worker with the DACA recipient in order to bring them to the right resources
