Developing malignancy is associated with venous thromboembolism and venous stroke. Age, obesity, history of breast, lung, colorectal and ovarian cancer as well as thromboembolic event increase the risk. Pathomechanisms of such complications include procoagulants secreted by malignant cells, proinflammatory cytokines produced in response to growing tumor, activation of platelets and monocytes. The diagnostics is based on clinical manifestation, neuroimaging and routine laboratory tests: platelets and white blood cells counts, D-dimers and C-reactive protein concentrations. Highly advanced laboratory tests, that enable prognosis of risk can be used as well: prothrombin fragment 1+2, clotting factor VIII, soluble P-selectin and tissue factor. ...
