ANÁLISE DAS VARIÁVEIS DETERMINANTES DO COMPORTAMENTO DE ESCOLHA ENTRE ALTERNATIVAS DE TRABALHO EM ADULTOS COM DEFICIÊNCIA MENTAL

Four mentally retarded adults learned a work task with and without environmental work support, which consisted in assembling notebooks. The environmental support used containers in which to place different components and was designed to provide immediate feedback, to increase or maintain the rate of work response and to prevent errors during the task routine. Following initial training the subjects worked individually either under multiple schedules or under concurrent-chain schedules according to a multiple-element design. When the multiple schedule condition was in operation, the components were either presence or absence of environmental support, quasi-randomly distributed. In the concurrent-chain schedule condition, participant chose to do the task with or without the environmental support condition. When choice opportunities were given, preference was shown by two participants for the work support condition and no preference was observed with the other two participants. For all four participants the time spent to task completion and the average number of errors in performing the task decreased. Discussion offers some conjectures about possible variables controlling choice behaviors in the present work conditions.Keywords: concurrent chain schedules, multiple schedules, choice, preference, work, mentally retarded adultsQuatro indivíduos com retardo mental aprenderam uma tarefa de trabalho com e sem apoio ambiental para realizar a tarefa, que consistia em montar blocos de anotações. O apoio ambiental continha dispositivos para colocação dos materiais, para fornecer feedback imediato, para aumentar ou manter a taxa de resposta e prevenir erros durante a rotina da tarefa. Após um treino inicial, os participantes realizaram individualmente a tarefa sob esquemas múltiplos de reforçamento ou sob esquemas concorrentes com encadeamento, em um delineamento experimental de múltiplos elementos. Nos primeiros, os componentes de trabalho variavam com relação à presença ou ausência do arranjo instrucional. A atribuição dos componentes era feita pelo experimentador, em distribuição quase randômica. Nos esquemas concorrentes com encadeamento, o participante escolhia entre realizar a tarefa com ou sem apoio ambiental. Os resultados mostraram, para dois participantes, que quando tinham oportunidades de escolha, a alternativa com arranjo foi preferida; os outros dois participantes não demonstraram preferência. O tempo de realização da tarefa e a média de erros apresentados diminuíram. Discutem-se possíveis variáveis controladoras do comportamento de escolha dos participantes nessas condições de trabalho.
