Taking for granted that the Catalan-Aragonese expansion through the Mediterranean sea has received due attention from historians, this work deals with some realms and locations less often visited by sailors and merchants from Catalonia, Valencia or Mallorca. Its aim is to provide a view of the Catalan presence in western Andalusia throughout the late Middle Ages, analyzing its role in the Andalusian allotment and the conditions accounting for the development of such a presence in the region between the thirteenth and the fifteenth centuries. It deals particularly with the creation of family and economic bonds standing as the foundations of Catalan influence on Andalusia, which help to better understand its interest in the Middle Atlantic so...
