In this article we study the group of Africans that were taken to Cuba to be turned into slaves and were declared legally free due to the application of international treaties and the pressure of British abolitionist groups because the ship they were being transported on was captured. However, the so-called emancipated blacks, approximately 26,000, were assimilated as slaves in fear of their becoming a disruptive factor in the social order, due to the need of labor for the sugar plantations and the appearance of a lucrative business for the authorities.
