The treaty for the abolition of slave trafficking between Spain and the United Kingdom in 1835 included the obligation on the part of Spain to carry out a criminal law to repress the slave trade to the Caribbean. The British repeatedly pressed until they achieved in 1843 the political commitment to carry it out.
