From the ordinary object to sculpture

Ordinary objects inspire me in the making of sculpture. I investigate the qualities of the ordinary objects that I'm interested in, and I investigate the different methods I use when transferring the ordinary object to the status of an artistic artefact or installation. To be able to investigate this I have set up a reflective framework around my practice. To gain a better understanding of the way I handle the ordinary objects when making sculptures and installations I have looked back at some of my older works by means of a video camera as a medium. I introduced time as an active factor in my sculptural work. I have also investigated what role the studio takes in the practice. The sculptures that I make mostly originate out of actions that I apply on ordinary objects emphasizing qualities of form, matter and spatiality. The acting arises from a natural drive to manifest myself spatially. I want to take up space by means of objects, sculptures and installations, to create an involvement with and a spatial experience for the spectator. I investigate how I - as an actor or as a mediator - am part of this. The leitmotiv of my PhD research is the exploration of sculptural and spatial qualities of my tracing drawings. I identified the interaction of form and space as a recurring theme within this field of exploration.
