The Magic Box

I have been invited by Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop to produce an exhibition for the Edinburgh International Festival, August 2014. This exhibition will include a presentation of research materials, experimental presentation of works (ceramic works, mirror stereoscopes, anaglyphs, lightboxes) photography and printmaking. I will also be in residence to create an installation within the space allowing a further opportunity for the public to view the layering of ideas, and the gradual evolution of a work during the exhibition period. The research objectives are:•To construct and install lightboxes as sculptural objects within a gallery environment in order to display works as described above.•To also present an exhibition/installation/working studio within this gallery environment.•To make a publication/artist book which echoes this ethos of interdisciplinarity.There will be numerous opportunities for public engagement – a regular series of talks, lectures, discussions are an integral part of the exhibition. Knowledge exchange will be facilitated through this series of 4-6 talks with academics, poets and writers exploring aspects of the work, as well as the residency.A kind of archeology of my creative practice, focusing upon my archive of image transparencies that date back to the early 1980s, this project engages with aspects of history, creativity, performance, audience participation, and public discourse. This will involve the development of a unique form of presentation – a series of especially constructed light boxes displaying 10” x 8” original transparencies changing at regular intervals will allow a large amount of work to be seen over a period of time. Printmaking, ceramic works, mirror stereoscopes, anaglyphs, phantograms and other experimental works will feature. New work will be created in residence, painting, constructing, photographing.
