Damnatio memoriae? Antônio e Cleópatra na poesia de Horácio: Damnatio memoriae? Antony and Cleopatra in Horace’s poetry

This article examines how Horace represents Cleopatra and Mark Antony in his Odes and Epodes. In order to do so, Lyne’s theory (1995), that Horace avoided direct vituperation of the great political personages of his time until Octavian, the future Augustus, won the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, was of use. Thus, starting from the theory of alterity of Jovchelovitch (1998) and also Girardet’s concept of political mythology (1987), we seek to understand how Horace uses certain commonplaces to delegitimize the Egyptian queen and her consort.O presente artigo analisa o modo como Horácio representa Cleópatra e Marco Antônio em suas Odes e Epodos. Para tal, apoiamo-nos na ideia de Lyne (1995), de que Horácio evitou vitupérios diretos a grandes personagens da política de seu tempo até que Otávio, futuro Augusto, venceu a Batalha de Ácio, em 31 a.C. Assim, partindo da teoria da alteridade de Jovchelovitch (1998) e também do conceito de mitologia políticade Girardet (1987), buscamos compreender a forma como Horácio utiliza-se de certos lugares-comuns para deslegitimar a atuação da rainha egípcia e seu consorte.
