The first part of this article presents a regional analysis of the trajectories of Roman small towns in Touraine during the Middle Ages. Whereas no more than half a dozen of Roman small towns are documented by archaeology, thirty-four vici are known in Touraine in the VIth century through the evidence provided by Gregory of Tours and inscriptions on coins. This study highlights the resilience of some of these through the transformation of settlement networks. The setting up of castle networks resulted in a parting of the ways in the trajectories of the late antique vici.
