The overview of the development of the occupation of agglomerations after the Late Empire, in what today is the Loiret, is a preliminary task to be extended to the whole region in the future. An inventory needs to be drawn up of the sites dating from the Early Middle Ages in the areas of influence of ancient agglomerations. There are three possible categorisations : the site was abandoned after the Late Empire ; the occupation moved elsewhere as a whole ; the two occupations overlap. In the two latter cases, the influence of the ancient communications network that lasted into the Middle Ages seems to be responsible for the continuity of occupation.
