The Maine Democratic state convention in 1992 changed the party rules to institute a combined caucus-primary system, and last Sunday the state committee voted against repealing the new system. Maine\u27s first primary is scheduled to take place the same day as New Hampshire\u27s first-in-the-nation presidential primary, which puts Maine at odds with both New Hampshire and the national Democratic Party.
