Includes copies of acceptance letters and covers of publications.Biographical/Historical Note: Helen Reid Roberts was born in 1914 in Vina, Alabama, the first of John and Lonie Reid's eight children. She graduated from the University of Alabama and five years later her first short story, Anywhere was published in the Birmingham News-Age-Herald. In 1974, when Frank L. Owsley, Jr.'s reprint of The Life of Andrew Jackson, Robert's' memoir about Jackson's military secretary, Major John Reid, was included in it. In 1976, she wrote a three chapter narrative for a Reid family genealogy, The Nathan Reids of Virginia in the March of Freedom.Over the years, Roberts had poetry and short stories published in Outstanding Contemporary Poets for 1939, Verse Craft, International Poetry Magazine, We the People, The Yearbook of Public Opinion, First You Sing It, Poets of the Southern States, Driftwind, and Kaleidograph: A National Magazine of Verse.Besides writing poetry, Roberts was a school teacher in Alabama for 12 years amd then worked for 29 years at the Tuscaloosa COunty Department of Pensions and Security. She retired in 1978.She and her husband, Milton Boyd Roberts, had one daughter, Mary Helen, and three grandchildren
