Abstract: Letters written by Alice Garnett and her husband Algernon Sydney Garnett, a professor at the University of Alabama, discussing, among other things, the hardships of travel, news of the university, its professors, and their wives, the election of a new superintendent of education, and a rebellion by the University Cadets against the commandant.Scope and Content Note: This collection includes several letters written by Alice Garnett and her husband, Algernon Sydney Garnett, discussing, among other things, a trip to Tuscaloosa, the hardships of travel, news of the university, its professors and their wives, the election of a new superintendent of education, a rebellion by the University Cadets against the commandant, and his subsequent resignation. There is also a newspaper clipping of a March 24, 1892 notice reporting that Rebecca B. Scott purchased land in Washington, DC(?) from Henry Bradley for $20,000, as well as what looks to be a graduation picture of Alice Evelyn Scott.Biographical/Historical Note: Algernon Sydney Garnett served as professor of natural history at the University of Alabama from 1871 to 1874
