Gov. King last week said working Mainers paid too much in state and local taxes, and proposed cutting back on some of the tax exemptions created for business. Katherine Kearney of Coastal Enterprise said some of the business tax credits initiated by King have induced several Maine firms to plan expansions of services and jobs. There are signs that lawmakers are realizing that business tax incentives are only one part of job creation, and that such incentives can have a negative impact on a state\u27s financial health.
