Focus on Health Care piece about Dr. Gilliam Johnson, 46, of Sidney, a native of North Carolina, who quit his successful practice at the Winthrop Health Care Center, where he was seeing about 22 patients a day, to establish a one-man practice, called Doctor in the House, that allows him to make house calls and to limit his services to the uninsured patients and to seniors covered by Medicaid. Instead of charging by the procedure, Dr. Johnson charges his patients for his time--about $2 a minute. He limits his home-care visits to six to eight patients per day, and works only from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., accepting patients in an area restricted to Augusta, Farmingdale, Gardiner, Hallowell, Manchester, Oakland, Sidney and Winthrop.
