The expression besshitsutoukou, literally "attending school in a separate classroom" is used to describe that a student is able to physically come to school, but for some psychological reason cannot participate in a normal classroom, then stays in a separate place within the school. In this article, a case of school counseling involving a group of four girls in the second year of junior high school is presented. In the initial stage, they described the difficulty they had in being in a normal classroom, and this caused hyperventilation.
