Using the strips of filter paper impregnated with aluminum hydroxide, the authors studied mutual separation of acids and some metallic salts. Separations of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, copper sulfate, copper nitrate or lead nitrate from other metallic salts were accomplished by developing merely with water. Special developing reagents were required for the mutual separation of other salts. For example, developing with potassium iodide was necessary for the separation of zinc from cadmium. Thus minute amount of zinc was detected and estimated in the presence of large amount of cadmium
